Estero S.A. is a Uruguayan seed company owned by private capital, dedicated to agribusiness in the Region.(Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay).
The main business of the company is the production, development and trading of forage seeds, hybrid maize, sorghum and sunflower, soybeans, winter cereals and turf seeds.
The company has 3 locations in Uruguay, the main office in Montevideo and two shops in the departments of Rivera and Cerro Largo. It also has its own research field El Pedregal, located in the southern region of the country, in the department of Canelones. At this site, the agronomical performance and yield potential, which enable seed production for regional markets, and /or contracted seed multiplication for export markets.
Additionally, at El Pedregal, we run some small plant breeding programs on those species relevant for our region, but with little or no breeding around the world.
MARKETING and LOGISTICS
The staff of Estero S.A. has more than 25 years of experience in seed business, both in the local market and foreign trade. An important number of agronomists are directly involved in the tasks of Research, Quality Control, Development and Marketing.
The three local branches and a wide distribution network complete the trading scheme within Uruguay. The important agreements in Argentina Brazil and Paraguay, and the central location with respect to these countries, make Estero S.A. a very interesting point into and from the Region. Uruguay has a very active port in Montevideo, and a large availability of free ports and free trade zones, which make the country, a very appropriate option as a regional distribution center. Capital movements are free in the country, and the American Dollar is a common currency. Estero S.A. exports sed from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay into the regional countries and to the US, Europe, Asia and Africa. Estero S.A. works under the assumption that the cultivars should come from those companies with the most efficient plant breeding programs, no matter where they are located. The supply of seeds should, in turn, come from those places with a reliable and high quality production, and the lowest production costs.
